The Statue
"The Hooghe Aelder" owes its name to the combination of the dimensions of the statue and the name of its commissioner, "Aelder Hooghe Kunsten foundation".
The four arrow shaped standards which are on the axes of the compass card point into the world diagonally. They were placed in this way because diagonal lines suggest motion, in this case travelling.
The glass pillar symbolizes the waters and seas across which the voyage will lead, the blue top space and time.
The lead at the top is heavy, earthly and indicates the place where people will make a halt temporarily.
The travel will be concretized by the nine replicas which will set out on a journey ten times in five years' time.
The erratic boulder stands for antiquity, history and for travelling and staying.
The screen printed text on the statue is the voice of the relation between them.

Verse
On the statue there is a verse,
IN STAYING SILENCE BEGINS, IN SILENCE TRAVELLING, IN TRAVELLING SILENCE.
